It all started with the letter 'L' And what did it reveal ...... What did it come down to.... Out of all the words starting with the letter 'L' 34 in total scattered on a page I grouped them with dots, dashes and zigzagging lines Rewrote them, mixed them up, put them in a sentence Trying to make meaning with these random L words And there it was staring me in the face An image at the forefront of my mind I just didn't see it. LIPSTICK! That childhood memory rushing back of mum putting on her pink lipstick No other makeup, just the picture of mums pink lips that would adorn her face before she went out! Yes the word Lipstick in-between the limp, lift, light, look, lament, listen above laugh, love, life, line, lolly, lay, luck, lick, list, lymph, like, low below log, long, little, left, lush, lopsided, lip, leak, lake, lot, loose, loss, lose, let, loop LOL!

34 reasons to lick my lips
laugh at love and smack them together
an invincible colour and power as i slash my face with liquorice and strut out of my door
becoming limp and love loses its lock on my lips and laughs back at me
i can taste aniseed in my mouth as the water laps at my ankles and listens to my whispers looping in circles as they hit my lips lips lips that no longer lick

Once when I was four, I followed the patterns on the pavement. Head down, focused, committed. When I looked up, I was lost. For the next forty eight and a half minutes, my parents, panicked and flustered, searched the grounds for me. Unknowingly I wound my way along the grandstand looking for a familiar face. A stranger stopped me, smiled, kindly offered me a sweet and I sat with her for almost an hour until my mother found me.
Finally in her arms, she pleaded with me "Why did you stay with that lady?" I replied earnestly, "I knew she wasn't a baddy Mummy, because she was wearing pretty pink lipstick."

Imagine a dot to dot with only dots. I mean, without any numbers. 34 dots, for example. Scattered. You think the answer might be a 17 pointed star, a triacontakaitetragon. Until you see what has been staring you in the face.
